Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, #COPD

COPD week is celebrated with the aim to raise the awareness about Copd, which is an umbrella term used to describe chronic lung diseases which causes the limitations of airflow in the lungs. Here are the factors, symptoms and Complications revealing the many faces of COPD, which can arise if a person is suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

A life-threatening lung disease that results in difficulty in breathing due to the obstruction in the airways. In many cases, Emphysema happens due to the gradual damage of alveoles ( air sacs). In some cases, the irritation leads to the condition called Bronchitis.

WHO records show that there are about 64 million people worldwide suffering from COPD. As per the study, COPD will become the third leading cause of death by 2030 worldwide.

What causes COPD? # Exposure to tobacco smoke,(active /passive) smoking. # Asthmatic patients who smoke. # Exposure Pollution( indoor/outdoor). Smog is dangerous. # Occupational exposure to dust and chemicals.

Age-COPD develops gradually over the years, so symptoms appear usually at the age of 35 to 40.

COPD Symptoms: Shortness of breath (Dyspnoea) Wheezing (Whistling sound while breathing) Smoker's Cough Chest tightness At very later stage weight loss.

Prevention; Avoid smoking/ passive smokers stay away from active one while they smoke around. Prevent and take precautions need to safeguard yourself from indoor and outdoor pollution. Avoid chemical fumes and dust. Stay away from places such as heavy traffic areas, marketplaces and chemical factories, the areas which are congested. Avoid exposure to fireworks, crackers and fumes, if you are are a COPD patient.
